On December 21, 2024, Tina Dierna, the Founder and Managing Director of The COOP Concept, worked with Victoria Nazario, Lead Youth Design Manager and MSW Student at Adelphi University to bring a new project to the COOP Youth! Victoria taught the COOP youth how to upcycle furniture. The youth employees watched a video about the process of upcycling furniture. They then applied what they learned and put it into action.
The youth upcycled, primed, and painted pieces that Tina brought in for them to work on from local donations in the community. In addition to upcycling furniture, they created clay earrings and watercolor thank you cards for those who donate to The COOP Concept. They also assembled a jewelry stand to display the products they created.
On December 28, 2024, the last Saturday session of the year, a small group of youth came in to work extra hours to work on a variety of projects. The youth employees focused on finishing the clay earrings, organizing the earring display for the office, and painting furniture. Additionally, they sorted through our existing inventory and assisted in improving the organization of our office space.
